What is IPv4 Geolocation?
IPv4 geolocation maps an IPv4 address to a specific geographic location based on the connected device. By geographically mapping the IP address, any user can determine the country, state, city, zip code, latitude/longitude, ISP, area code, and type of service it is being used for.
Why is IP Geolocation Important?
There are many content providers, systems and services that rely on geolocation to deliver the proper requests. For example, if a content provider references geolocation records that are pointing to a country in Europe and you are a US based service provider, the content will be in a different language.
How to Update Your IPv4 Geolocation
After the IPs have been transferred to your organization, you will need to announce the IPv4 block via your ISP or BGP to update global routing records. You can check to ensure it is being announced by entering the IPv4 block under the RIPEstat section in the middle of the page at https://stat.ripe.net/ui2013/
Each geolocation company has similar methods of updating their records using BGP, global routing records and trace routes to confirm the actual location where the block is being routed. It usually takes them around 2 – 8 weeks to update their records.
You can verify geolocation using https://www.iplocation.net/ip-lookup. The most important information to review are the country, region, ISP & organization. If any of the providers have information that is inaccurate, you can expedite the process by contacting them.

Keep in mind they all have different timelines of 2 to 8 weeks and some of them only update their records once per month.
Another popular geolocation provider called Maxmind does not show up on that list. You can visit https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip2-precision-demo and just enter a single IP address from the IPv4 block to determine their geolocation record. If it is incorrect, reach out to their support and ask them to update the records.
