ARIN IPv4 Pre-Approval Guide
ARIN requires any organization looking to acquire IPs to provide a business use case. We have provided tips to work through this process seamlessly.
There are a few ways to justify your request for additional IPs that ARIN will approev. Choose the one option that best fits your situation. If needed, our team can assist with the entire process.
1 — Outgrown What You Have (Usage Over 75%)
If you already hold IPv4 space, show that you’re using 75% or more of it across all your current allocations. You’ll submit a spreadsheet that lists:
For reference, see an example utilization spreadsheet
2 — Growth Plan (50% over 2 years)
Demonstrate that you’ll use 50% of the addresses you’re requesting within 2 years. Your plan should include:
Requests are measured in /24 blocks (256 IPs each). For example, a /20 (4,096 IPs) would be submitted as 16 × /24s.
3 — Moving Away from ISP-Assigned IPs
If neither option above applies, you may still qualify if you’re planning to:
4 — Per-Service /24 Requirements
If you have individual services that each require their own /24 — because that’s the smallest routable block for BGP announcements — you can justify each one separately.
For example, 1 x /24 for a data center, 1 x /24 for clients and 1 x /24 for security.
